We’re talking with Prof. Adam Francisco, our resident expert on all things Islamic. This is part 1 of a two-part third microphone conversation. Great stuff!

This was the second time I’ve heard a reference to Muslims not swallowing saliva during Ramadan. I spent 3 years in Kuwait and never saw this. I even asked a couple of friends of mine about it…one a convert and one a lifelong Muslim. One said, “What would we do with it?!” and the other said, “Don’t believe everything you hear about Islam.” They both thought it was a bizarre notion.
So I’m curious…where does this idea come from?
BTW, a Muslim country during Ramadan can be fun. For a month of fasting you sure find lots of really great food available for the holiday…after sundown, of course. Not to mention that the work days are shorter.
We’ll check in with Prof. Francisco on this. I suspect Kuwait may be a bit more “civilized.”
Great show! Was Dr. Francisco able to stay for another segment? Would love to hear more of this, especially in light of current events.
